VIDEO – Fishing Flamingo with Capt. Steven Tejera

by Capt. Clay Eavenson on August 13, 2010

This is the first episode of Pro Angler’s Journal the TV show. We shot this in Flamingo, FL with Capt. Steven Tejera back in March of 2010. We got some great footage but we are learning a lot about putting a show together. Specifically the time line. We’re working on having a better beggining, middle and end to the show. So, bear with us, each episode is bound to get better and better.

The next show will be coming up soon with Capt. Benny Blanco as he shows us some awesome fishing and scenery in Everglades National Park.

Thanks Capt. Steven! you’re a true pro and you know how to put us on fish!!!

3 Beautiful Words

“Free,” “Fishing,” and “Weekend.”

Three incredible words arranged together.  It has been suggested that the only word missing might be the word “Fried.” The National Fishing and Boating Week begins June 5, coordinated with many states’ free fishing days.  This is a chance for the public to fish without a license.  You, however, are reading this on a fishing related web site, so you’ve already invested in a license… but I’ll bet you know a family that doesn’t get to fish.  This is your chance to amaze them with your fishing expertise; or amuse with your lack thereof.  There is nothing more exciting, fun, and wholesome than fishing and this weekend’s free pass is a great opportunity.  For more information, please visit:

May Fishing Forecast – Northeast Florida

by Capt. Tommy Derringer on May 5, 2010

Post image for May Fishing Forecast – Northeast Florida

After somewhat of a late spring we can look for the topwater bite to be on fire this May. The water will be warm, the mullet plentiful, and tossing a floating plug like the Ghost Walker by Sebile at first and last light will produce great topwater strikes. May is one of my favorite times of year for trout. We usually get some of the biggest trout of the year this month on my boat and they’re usually caught on a topwater or subsurface plug. During the day when the sun is high switch to a soft plastic like a Fishbites jerkbait or paddle tail. Both those lures will be perfect at imitating an injured baitfish and the scent allows the fish to find the bait even in the murkier water we’ll have this month.

River Dinosaur Roundup

According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Department, the sturgeon that inhabit the Missouri and Mississippi rivers are very similar to a fish that swam 70 million years ago, thus sometimes earning the title, “dinosaur.” The University of Nebraska is about to start the second sampling season of a 5-year study on shovelnose sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus platorynchus) to monitor this species population.

Post image for Fishing Report – Tampa Bay – New Port Richey – Starting to Look Like Spring

This has been one of the longest winters I can remember, and I don’t think I have looked forward to the warmth of spring so much. While the fishing has been pretty good through all the cold, it is going pop when the water and the days start to warm. Over the past few weeks I have noticed a lot of fish starting to look for food on the shallower flats along our coast, and although the water is still cold by normal standards, they are staying out there and enjoying the sun warmed shallows. The only thing that was missing from the equation was a good food source, until this past week. The first wave of sardines has made the trek out of the warm winter hideouts to start looking for food and there migrating brothers coming from the south.
